Evelyn Symons was born in Toronto, Canada. As she grew up, her family moved quite a bit through Ontario. The people she met and the experiences she shared with others, only broaden her interest in photography and writing. A photograph or a few written words can spark memories of days gone by or inspire for the days ahead. Although her career was in the banking industry she was able work in areas that enabled her to exercise some creativity and analysis. She was always looking for a better way to improve systems.

A steady job was required then to raise her two children. Evelyn’s mother taught her how to work hard and how to spend time with the ones you love. Looking back she has so many memories she wouldn’t change for the world even if always living pay to pay. She stayed in London, Ontario with her children and gave them a town to call home. Her now adult children both with their degrees are taking a bite out of life while living in Europe. They have the adventurous spirit of so many of their generations before them. Evelyn also has two older stepchildren and 5 grandchildren which affords her many photo opportunities.

Evelyn’s father has an extensive background in both writing and photography but it was not until he asked her if she’d like to have his Nikon F4 and equipment that her opportunities opened up. He was ready to have a smaller camera with less gear. Completely taken by surprise, it took Evelyn a while to gain the knowledge and experience needed to share photography with others.

She has recently returned from Namibia, Africa with six other photographers, a trip that changed her life. “There is no longer a question of what I want to do with the rest of my life.” she answers when asked. “I want to shoot, to write and to share with others.”
